Hello everybody, in this video we shall be introducing you to two new Honda 53cm lawn mowers, namely the HRN 536 VK and the HRN 536 VY.
The key difference between the two models is that the VY model has our Honda Roto Stop [have both mowers next to each other and pan across to show the Roto Stop on the VY] technology which means you can keep the engine running whilst having the blades disengaged enabling you to safely empty the grass bag for example or drive the mower from one area to another across a surface which is not grass without risking any loose objects such as gravel damaging the blades, cutter deck or anything else.
The new HRN 536 models are equipped with our Honda GCVx170 engine. These engines are well laid out and provide easy access to key aspects such as the oil drain, the spark plug, air filter as well as having an extra large fuel filler cap.
The new HRN 536 machines feature a completely newly designed cutter deck made up of three parts, this front section, the centre section and the rear area. The three parts combined perfectly to optimise airflow resulting in fantastic collecting and mulching performance which we shall be showing you later. The grass bag has a large 70 litre capacity which means you do need to stop as often to empty the bag as is the case with mowers with much smaller grass bags.
Both the HRN536 VK and VY feature our Honda Smart Drive variable speed control. The Smart Drive lever can be set to five different positions depending on what is comfortable for the user. Once a position is selected, the further down you push the grey lever, the faster the mower will move forward. Should you wish to alter the position of the Smart Drive control, you slide this button, select a different position, release the button and the control will lock into the new position.
The new HRN 536 models also have a two position adjustable handle bar system which again allows the user to select the position which is most comfortable for them. When not in use, the handlebar can be folded down flat onto the mower to enable more efficient storage.
To enable effective cutting of various grass types and heights, the new models have a two point cutter height adjustment system. The adjusters are easily operated by selecting the appropriate slot from the seven different height options available which range in height from 27mm right up to 100mm.
Both models also feature our Honda Versamow which by operating this lever allows a seamless transition from collecting mode to mulching mode. There is no need to fit a separate mulching kit or plug, the option to switch from mulching to collecting is as simple as using this clearly marked lever.
When the lever is in the mulching position as it is now, you can see that the ejector chute is closed off which means the grass clippings are kept inside the cutter housing where the twin blades repeatedly cut the clippings into very fine pieces which eventually drop back into the grass to provide a natural fertilizer. Should you wish to collect the clippings, you move the Versamow lever to collect and you can see that the ejector chute opens up which enables the clippings to be directed into the grass bag.
Whilst we have the mower on its side, we can also show you the new gearbox and two way ratchet system (located in behind the wheels so not something we can see) which allows the rear wheels to rotate freely in both directions. This makes these new HRN 536 VK and VY machines exceptionally easy to manoeuvre during use. To illustrate how easy these new models are to manoeuvre and to show that the force required to move these machines forward and backwards is indeed the same, we shall now measure the actual force with a meter.
